Businesswomen gathered to celebrate success as East Midlands Chamber’s Enterprising Women network gathered for race day at Leicester Racecourse on 18th July.
Enterprising Women co-chair Eileen Perry said: “What’s wonderful about Enterprising Women is the way, as we’ve seen today, that so many women in business can be together in one place and be celebrated for success. This day at the races was a perfect setting to raise a glass for the outstanding achievement of women in the East Midlands. We’ll be raising a glass to those achievements in an even bigger way at the Enterprising Women awards in September. Being able to share a room with leaders, entrepreneurs and creatives of this level is always inspiring.”
Co-chair Jean Mountain said: “We host a range of events throughout the year and today has been one of the most enjoyable. We’ve had bright sunshine all day, but I like to think the women in business here in the East Midlands shine even brighter, all year round. Enterprising Women boosts confidence, belief in ability and with networking and shared experience we can build on that.”
Nelsons Solicitors Head of Employment and Partner Laura Casey said: “I’m a woman in business. I’m also a mother of a daughter and I’m always championing the cause to make sure that we demonstrate that women are a powerful part of our business community and we’ve got so much to give.”
Michael Smith Switchgear Finance and Operations Director Emily Smith said: “I’m in manufacturing and I think there’s still quite a lot of stigma around women working in manufacturing. It’s very much a male dominated industry. Events like this really bring women together and make us feel like we’re sharing the same problems.
“I remember coming to my first Enterprising Women event, walking in and breathing a sigh of relief because the women share the exact same challenges that I experience on a daily basis. To have that network of people around you that can support you, talk to, boost confidence and share challenges is the best way forward.”
Unique Window Systems Aluminium Operations Manager Mir Patel said: “When people say the word ‘manager’ you probably automatically assume it’s a man. That’s why events like East Midlands Chamber’s Enterprising Women is great. It empowers women, gets them together, motivates and it helps them strive for bigger roles, progressing up the career ladder.”
A ceremony recognising the achievements of East Midlands women in business – the Enterprising Women Awards – takes place at Winstanley House in Leicestershire on 20th September. Finalists have already been selected but to attend click here.
