East Midlands Chamber has congratulated companies in the region that made the Top Ten of this year’s East Midlands Top 500 Companies index, which was officially revealed at the Chamber President’s Annual Dinner on 20th June.

Boots made number one in this year’s list for the fifth year running while Motorpoint was a new entry into the Top 10. There was an 18% increase in year-on-year turnover at the Top 500 companies, rising to £97 billion.  Among companies in the Top Ten revenue grew 12.7% year-on-year, while staffing levels were down 11%.

The East Midlands Top 500 Companies was launched in 2020 to track the performance of the largest businesses in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.  The index is compiled by Professor David Rae of De Montfort University, in partnership with the University of Derby and Nottingham Trent University, with support from Cross Productions.

East Midlands Chamber Chief Executive Scott Knowles said: “The fact we’ve seen such notable growth in turnover in 2024’s Top 500 is testament to the position the East Midlands sits in as a Centre of Trading Excellence.  I’m delighted that the index was unveiled at the Chamber President’s Annual Dinner, where so many esteemed representatives of the region’s business community were assembled.  It’s always fantastic to see businesses rise up the list, like Motorpoint joining the Top Ten for the first time.  I extend my congratulations to all the companies in this year’s Top 500 which is an outstanding achievement.”

East Midlands Chamber Director of Policy and Insight Richard Blackmore said: “The region has been through a tough few years so it’s good to see businesses on the list thriving. Their success creates employment and growth for the regional and national economy and continues to highlight the East Midlands as a place to do business.

“Many of the businesses on the list are Chamber members, playing their role in supporting and raising the profile of the region we work and live in.  I would like to thank De Montfort University, the University of Derby and Nottingham Trent University for the huge amount of effort which goes into compiling this valuable resource.”

With five years of data capturing substantial shifts in the regional economy and an in-depth sectoral analysis, we are eager to utilise this information to guide the future growth of the East Midlands economy.”
